Indio Subbasin SGMA Alternative Plan 

On December 29, 2016, the GSAs in the Indio Subbasin submitted the 2010 Coachella Valley Water Management Plan along with a Bridge document to the California Department of Water Resources (DWR) for review and evaluation as an Alternative to a Groundwater Sustainability Plan. DWR reviewed the Alternative Plan, and on July 17, 2019, determined the Alternative Plan met the requirements of SGMA and approved the plan. DWR informed the Indio Subbasin GSAs they would be required to assess and update the Alternative Plan every five years, with the first plan update due to DWR by January 1, 2022.  To view the Alternative Plan for the Indio Subbasin, visit DWR’s SGMA portal. 

2022 Indio Subbasin Alternative Plan Update 

The GSAs in the Indio Subbasin worked together to prepare the 2022 Alternative Plan Update. Following a public hearing in December 2021, the GSAs adopted the 2022 Alternative Plan Update and submitted the plan to DWR on December 29, 2021. To view the 2022 Indio Subbasin Alternative Plan Update, visit the Indio Subbasin SGMA website. 

2027 Indio Subbasin Alternative Plan Update 

The 2027 update to the Indio Subbasin Alternative Plan is due to DWR by December 29, 2026. For information on the latest updates to the plan, upcoming community workshops, and other details, visit the Indio Subbasin SGMA website. 

Indio Subbasin Annual Reports by Water Year 

Indio Subbasin GSAs are required to submit a SGMA annual report to DWR by April 1 each year. This annual report is a “year in review” that summarizes groundwater conditions and progress made on implementing the projects and management actions identified in the Indio Subbasin Alternative Plan and Plan Updates. To view copies of the annual reports, visit the Indio Subbasin SGMA website.
