Average Consumption

The amount of water used has increased considerably due to area population growth. For example, the acre feet of water used in 1940 was 1,200. Usage reached 45,000 acre feet by 1990 and is expected to exceed 84,000 acre feet by 2020. An acre foot is 326,000 gallons, enough to supply a family of four for a year.

The typical consumption of a single family residence in the Palm Springs area is about 1400 gallons per day.
