Millions of gallons of recycled water have irrigated golf
courses, parks and green belts since 1988 when Desert Water Agency and the City
of Palm Springs entered into an agreement to treat sewage water.
This recycled water, while not for drinking purposes, safely
re-enters the groundwater thanks to careful quality management by Desert Water
Agency.
The process conserves water and saves energy as well, since
recycled water uses only a fourth of the energy required to pump groundwater.
Reclaimed water use protects our water supply since its use
reduces the amount of nitrates which could reach our groundwater.
