As a part of the Desert Water Agency’s water resources management strategy, recycled water is used to replace fresh groundwater as a source for landscape irrigation. Treated wastewater is received from the City of Palm Springs wastewater treatment facility. The treated wastewater is given additional treatment through the use of chemically assisted filtration and disinfection prior to its use as irrigation water.
The recycled water then enters its own delivery system of pipes, pumps and reservoirs and is provided as irrigation water to area parks, parkways and golf courses.
In calendar year 2005, approximately 852 million gallons (or 6.4% of all delivered fresh groundwater) was conserved through the use of recycled water. |
