Desert Water Agency has an immediate opening for an Equipment Operator. This is a unique position requiring State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Operator and Water Treatment Operator certifications as well as a California Class “A” driver license. This is not an entry-level position.
Only applicants with the following requirements are eligible to apply:
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Five years construction experience with the use and functions of light and heavy power-driven equipment such as backhoes, loaders, excavators, dozers, tractors, trucks and ability to operate assigned equipment with skill and in a safe manner.
California Class “A” Driver License with acceptable driving record and ability to respond to work within 30 minutes.
Willingness to obtain a State Water Resources Control Board Distribution Operator Grade D-2 Certificate within 24 months of employment.
Willingness to obtain a State Water Resources Control Board Water Treatment Operator Grade T-1 Certificate within 24 months of employment.
This position performs a variety of excavating, earth moving, backfilling, trenching, and construction assignments; repair, install and maintain water distribution facilities, including mains, service lines, hydrants, meters and valves; lay and fit pipe, mix, pour and finish cement, and install valves and meters. Position requires heavy physical labor requiring strength, dexterity and agility; must be able to carry push, pull, reach and lift equipment, parts and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs; stoops, kneels, crouches, crawls, and climbs during field maintenance, repair and installation work and performs a variety of manual tasks in relation to construction, installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of public water lines and all related facilities, services and equipment. Minimum of one week per month emergency stand-by service, and possible overtime as needed.
